2024 Wisconsin Football Schedule Preview: Part 3

We’re halfway through previewing Wisconsin football’s 2024 schedule! After six games, I have Wisconsin football at 5-1. Yesterday I previewed USC, Purdue, and Rutgers. Today I’ll be taking a look at the next three Wisconsin football games. That’s Northwestern, at home against Penn State, and Iowa. Here’s a preview of those three opponents.

Wisconsin Football Schedule Preview: Oct. 19 at Northwestern

Indiana was a pretty painful loss for Wisconsin football, as the Hoosiers were one of the worst teams in the Big Ten. I would also argue that Northwestern’s 24-10 home loss the following week was worse. Tanner Mordecai returned for that game, but Wisconsin football came out flat. It honestly didn’t look like they wanted to play.

At the time, Northwestern was below .500, but played better under interim coach David Braun. He has since earned the full-time coaching position and has earned it. On paper, the Wildcats don’t have a good roster. But they always play the Badgers challenging, no matter where they are. I don’t think this team will lose to Northwestern this year, especially with the way they came out last year at home.

Penn State: October 26

Wisconsin football has another tough home game. This year, Penn State comes to Camp Randall for the first time in several seasons. A freshman starter last year, Drew Aller had a pretty good year. He threw for 25 touchdowns and just two interceptions, but only for 2,631 yards. He should have a better year in 2024.

Penn State will rely on its two-headed running back duo. Sophomore Nicholas Singleton rushed for 752 yards and eight touchdowns, but also added 308 yards in the passing game. The other starter will be sophomore Kaytron Allen. He led the team in rushing with 902 yards and six touchdowns.

I wrote earlier this summer that Wisconsin football would beat Alabama, Penn State, or Oregon. I think Penn State is the one that Wisconsin football will get between those three.

In Iowa: November 2

Iowa may have been one of the most frustrating games to watch last season. The Hawkeyes were awful on offense outside of Leshon Williams’ 82-yard touchdown run. It wasn’t enough, as Wisconsin’s football offense struggled on offense and didn’t get stops on defense when it needed to.

I don’t think it really matters whether Wisconsin has a better quarterback, running backs and wide receivers. So how is Iowa so successful? They have a tremendous defense led by seniors Jay Higgins, Nick Jackson and Sebastian Castro.

Injuries plagued Iowa last season. Wisconsin’s football team was without quarterback Cade McNamara and tight end Luke Lachey. Both players suffered season-ending injuries. They’ll look to rebound.

The Badgers need to stop the running game and score points. It seems simple, but Iowa’s offensive line is always solid and the defense will be one of the best in the country. It may not even take 20 points to win this game. Wisconsin football could win, but I think Iowa will win based on their defense.
