2024 Wisconsin Football Schedule Preview: Part 4

After previewing the first nine games on the Wisconsin football schedule, today will be the final installment of my 2024 schedule preview. The final three games for the Badgers are a huge home game against Oregon, an away game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the regular season finale against Minnesota. These three games could be key for the Badgers to earn bowl eligibility, as this is a tough schedule. Here is a preview of the final three opponents.

Wisconsin Football Schedule Preview: Oregon Ducks (Nov. 16)

Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell is shown during a spring football practice Thursday, April 25, 2024, in Madison, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Badgers football team plays its first game of the season against Western Michigan on Aug. 31.

After Alabama, the Oregon Ducks are arguably the toughest game on the Wisconsin football schedule. By the time that game is played, Oregon could be one of the top five teams in the country. After losing Bo Nix to the NFL, the Ducks are bringing in Dillon Gabriel, a transfer from UCF and Oklahoma who has twice thrown for over 3,000 yards, including last year.

Oregon needs to replace a ton of production from last year, but they have two great receivers returning. Johnson has nearly 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns on 86 receptions. He could be one of the best receivers in the country. He’ll probably give this Wisconsin defense a tough time on his own. I have a tough time seeing Wisconsin football win this game.

Nebraska Cornhuskers: November 23

The past two seasons, the Wisconsin football team has had to beat Nebraska to qualify for a bowl game. Based on the schedule, this game could decide who wins Game 6 and who will play in the win-and-your-in game the following week.

I really like what Matt Rhule is doing in Lincoln. He brought in five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, who may not start this season but will definitely start in 2025. The Cornhuskers haven’t been to a bowl game in a while. They might be in another year or two, but it’s going to be a really tough road game. I think it’s a coin-flip game.

Minnesota Golden Gophers: November 29

The Paul Bunyan Axe Game will be played on Black Friday morning at 11:00 on CBS. Under PJ Fleck, the Golden Gophers are giving Wisconsin fits. The Gophers have won several times despite the Badgers having a better team. They may also be playing for their lives in the postseason.

Minnesota brings back quarterback Max Brosmer after four seasons in New Hampshire. Darius Taylor is a solid running back who should top 1,000 yards if fit. Daniel Jackson also returns after posting more than 800 receiving yards last season.

The defense has been solid since Fleck arrived and I think their quarterback play is better than it was under Athan Kaliakmanis. However, Wisconsin football has a better roster on both sides of the ball. I think they will win the regular season finale.
