It’s a winter thrill that’s quick, easy and doesn’t require expensive equipment. Snow tubing in Wisconsin is an exciting winter activity that the whole family can enjoy.
We’re not talking about leisurely sledding down a hill. We’re talking about tubes with style. It is a 30-meter-high tube with multiple chutes that is lifted to the top of a hill. Nearby you will find warm facilities such as cozy cottages serving delicious food and hot chocolate.
Here are six of the best snow tubing slopes in Wisconsin that will delight the whole family this season.
Cascade Mountain – Portage
Cascade Mountain is a state-of-the-art snow track with extensive snowmaking capabilities. You and your group can soar down 300-foot-high slides that drop 90 feet, then effortlessly ride the surface elevator back to the top of the hill.
When you need a break, warm up and grab a snack together at the lodge’s snack bar. The snowtubing season usually lasts from mid-December to early March and provides snow-related fun for both children and adults. Cascade also offers downhill skiing on 48 trails and a comprehensive terrain park for snowboarders.
Sylvan Hill Park – Wausau
Sylvan Hill Park encourages children of all ages to “Sit, Wait, Push, Scream, Repeat!” Six slides wind their way down two hills 53 and 50 meters above sea level, and two tow ropes quickly transport everyone to the top. The lodge’s snack bar serves pizza, nachos, soft pretzels and pre-packaged items, as well as hot and cold beverages.
The illuminated hills operate from mid-December to early March, on Friday and Saturday evenings and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. To ride the tube, cyclists must be at least 150 cm tall. For additional winter fun, there is also a 4.7 km long cross-country ski trail system (single track and ice skating track) and a 1.3 km snowshoe trail system.
Sunburst Ski Hill – Kewaskum
Head just thirty minutes from Milwaukee to experience the world’s largest tubing hill! solar flare is designed for maximum snow tubing excitement and features 42, 400-foot lanes where riders of all ages tackle 10-story drops at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. And the hill’s two 150-meter-long “Magic Carpet” elevators will easily take you and your ride back to the top of the hill. This park is also home to the world’s largest tubing hill, so you can be sure that you and your crew will have a great time.
Concessions are available at Sunburst Hut, and its snowmaking capabilities provide excellent snow conditions from mid-December through early March. Sunburst also offers downhill skiing on nine trails and snowboarding at two terrain parks.
Badlands Sno-Park – Hudson
Badlands Sno-Park is a family business that specializes in the cultivation of snow bulbs. Their seven routes have something for everyone in the family: the “bunny” route for beginners; the long, curved “Monkey Tail”, “Big Hill” for those who want a wilder ride; and “Turbo-tubing” on the north side of the hill. Five high-speed cable lifts will take you back to the top of the hill, and tubers of all ages are welcome.
The hut is the perfect place to warm up and have a snack. Badlands produces and maintains its own snow to keep the magic going from mid-December to early March.
Ariens Hill – Green Bay
Ariens Hill is the newest addition to Titletown, adjacent to Green Bay’s famous Lambeau Field. During the summer months. the hill serves as a unique urban park, but when the temperature drops, the slope is transformed (with the help of snowmaking machines) into an exciting tubing hill, perfect for spending time with friends and family.
The two lanes stretch for 300 feet, so hold on to your hats. Go back up the stairs or elevator and the subway will take its own elevator. Each ticket includes an unforgettable ride and a bird’s-eye view of Titletown.
Tyrolean Basin – Mount Horeb
Just outside Madison is Tyrol Basin on Mount Horeb, which offers tubing fun with snow machines, lighted trails, two conveyor belt lifts, and a dedicated tubing hut overlooking the hill. Open daily from January to early March, these trails are great fun for the whole family and are welcome for all ages.
