Even though Damian Lillard has given up his role as the lone scorer to share the spotlight with Giannis Antetokounmpo, there’s no denying how much of an offensive threat he is to other NBA teams. But according to his stats, the Milwaukee Bucks star still has the knack of changing the outcome of any game with his scoring prowess.
Lillard prepares for a promising season of getting back into shape with the Milwaukee Bucks after a arduous rookie year. Joining the team just before training camp left him struggling to find his role alongside Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, and it caused a noticeable drop in his production. His scoring average dropped from 32.2 points per game with the Portland Trail Blazers to 24.3 points last season.
Despite these challenges, Lillard has maintained an average of around 26 points and has admitted that moving to a novel city has been stressful, while also dealing with personal issues, including a divorce. He believes that having a full year to adjust will support him a lot in the future. The point guard has been actively communicating with his teammates and has even trained with endurance athlete David Goggins to improve his physical condition.
With his renewed focus and ability to build chemistry with his teammates, Lillard is poised to regain his elite scoring form. The Bucks finished last season 49-33 and are expected to contend for an NBA title, especially now that he’s more settled in Milwaukee. He remains confident he can elevate his scoring back to the levels of his prime, making him a key asset to the Bucks’ championship aspirations this upcoming season.
