With a full offseason of preparation, the Milwaukee Bucks have a chance to make a large impact this upcoming campaign. The thing is, there is one issue that the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led team needs to address immediately.
The Bucks are preparing for the 2024-25 NBA season after a disappointing end to last year, but recent playoff exits have raised questions about whether their the championship window is closing.
After being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for two consecutive years, the Bucks face pressure to prove themselves. Despite that challenge, Milwaukee bolstered its roster with key additions this offseason, including Gary Trent Jr., who brings scoring and defensive skills from his time with the Toronto Raptors.
Other modern faces like Taurean Prince and Delon Wright are expected to add depth and versatility to the team. While the Bucks haven’t made a high-profile trade this summer, they’ve managed to replace older players with younger, more energetic players.
NBA Analysis Highlights Milwaukee Bucks’ Top Concerns for 2024-25 Season
While the Bucks have made some strides to get better, other teams in the Eastern Conference have made greater strides to compete next season. Zach Buckley Analysis for Bleacher Report stated that the most significant issue that Milwaukee must address immediately.
“With three years and just one playoff series win between them and a 2021 title, the Bucks are in the running. They pulled out all the levers they could, throwing caution to the wind with last year’s signing of Damian Lillard and then tasking Doc Rivers with putting this roster on championship track.
Milwaukee has wilted under Doc’s guidance, and Khris Middleton has once again struggled to stay on the court. Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo have played well together on the strength of their talents, but neither has seemed to bring out the best in the other. The Bucks had good stretches last season, but they’ve rarely looked great.
Their core players are now mostly in their 30s — Antetokounmpo will be that age in December — and several of them could become free agents as early as next summer. This isn’t just a championship season or bust, this is now or never for this core,” Buckley wrote.
Despite a strong start, Griffin was fired mid-season, and Doc Rivers took over as head coach earlier this year. The Bucks finished the season with record 49–33securing a spot in the playoffs, but were eliminated in the first round by the Indiana Pacers.
An aging core and increasing competition in the Central Division, especially from teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, complicate their prospects. As Milwaukee heads into the new season, they must effectively utilize their talent to prove critics wrong and regain their status as serious contenders in the Eastern Conference.
