While Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard are the main stars of the Milwaukee Bucks, Brook Lopez is one of the guys who allows the pair to be free on the court due to his two-way play skills. This makes the huge man one of the best centers in the league right now.
Lopez has made a significant impact on the NBA since being drafted 10th overall by the New Jersey Nets in 2008. He established himself as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer during his nine seasons with the team, showing steady improvement in his scoring. Lopez’s early career was marked by notable accomplishments, including being named to the All-Rookie First Team and an All-Star selection in 2013.
After retiring from the Nets, he played for the Los Angeles Lakers for one season before joining the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018. With the Bucks, Lopez transformed his game, becoming a talented three-point shooter, earning him the nickname Splash Mountain. His contributions were key to the Bucks’ 2021 championship run, where he played a key role in winning the title.
In addition to his scoring prowess, Lopez has been recognized for his defensive skills, earning spots on the NBA All-Defensive Team in recent years. His ability to block shots and rebound have solidified his reputation as a defensive asset.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Brook Lopez ranked among NBA’s best centers
There is no denying that Lopez has played a key role in the Bucks’ success over the past few years. He is currently ranked 19th on the NBA’s list of best centers by Frank Urbina from Hoops Hype.
“The immortal Brook Lopez continues to be a solid center, coming off a decent 2023-24 season after reportedly spurning the Rockets last summer to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks. Lopez’s two primary skills are blocking shots and shooting 3-pointers from the 5th-ranked spot, ranking third in the NBA in blocks per game at 2.4 while shooting a solid 36-plus percent from 3 last year.
Lopez, now 36, isn’t as fast as he once was (and he never was), which has limited his impact a bit, and we may be getting to the point where he’s no longer a 30-minute-per-game player like he was the last two seasons,” Urbina wrote.
Recently, the Bucks decided keep the middle for the upcoming NBA season, despite earlier trade speculation. Lopez, who averaged 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds last seasonis key to the team’s title aspirations, alongside stars Antetokounmpo and Lillard.
Lopez has been a standout on the court throughout his career, with one NBA championship to his name. Lopez has continued to be a key player for the Bucks thus far, showing resilience and adaptability in his game.
