Sectionals Packers quarterback Jordan Love is believed to have avoided a torn ACL

Good news for Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers: According to Tom Pelissero of NFL NetworkInitial tests on Love’s knee have shown that his anterior cruciate ligament is intact, but further tests will be needed once the team returns to Green Bay to find out how severe the knee injury is.

Love was injured in the third down of the Packers’ 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night in Brazil. He appeared to be hit in the side of his left knee, causing the injury. An intact anterior cruciate ligament rules out one possible scenario that would end Love’s 2024 season.

On-field testing for ACL tears is common. According to PhysiopediaLachman’s test can be performed to check the “integrity” of the anterior cruciate ligament and the stability of the knee. The Packers’ medical staff likely knew soon after the injury whether Love’s anterior cruciate ligament was severely damaged.

The Packers are flying home from Sao Paulo, a 10-plus-hour flight. When the team lands in Green Bay at noon Saturday, more imaging will be done on Love’s injury.

The Packers, who are now 0-1 after losing Friday night, won’t play again until Sunday, Sept. 15 against the Indianapolis Colts. The backup quarterbacks are Malik Willis, who was acquired in a trade with the Tennessee Titans before the trade deadline, and Sean Clifford, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 draft who was Love’s backup last season.
