ESPN Reveals Major Milwaukee Bucks Flaw That Must Be Fixed Before 2024 Season

While the Milwaukee Bucks boast a talented roster, there may be something the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led team is missing to compete for a ring, prompting ESPN to identify this flaw in an NBA analysis they recently did on the team.

Bucks had significant off-season as they prepare for the 2024 NBA season. With their sights set on increasing their championship potential, the Bucks have made strategic moves that have reshaped their roster, most notably Damian Lillard, whose scoring and playmaking skills are expected to elevate the team’s play alongside Antetokounmpo.

In addition to Lillard, the Bucks have added key veterans like Gary Trent Jr. and Delon Wright, adding depth and versatility to their roster. These players are not only capable of contributing offensively, but they also bring defensive skills that address previous weaknesses. This mix of experience and talent is designed to create a more competitive atmosphere, which is key to postseason success.

While the Bucks struggled in transition defense last season, the roster’s modern additions promise to improve in that area. The combination of Lillard’s offensive skills and solid defensive support from the modern recruits could provide the balanced approach necessary for a deep playoff run.

While all of the moves they made this offseason have been welcomed, the Bucks may still be missing something. According to an analysis by Tim Botemps for ESPN, Milwaukee reportedly lacks dynamics on the roster.

“Because the Bucks were already in the second zone under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, they could not sign a free agent for more than the minimum or combine multiple players to fill out the roster. And Milwaukee’s previous moves They’ve exhausted their future draft picksleaving the team with only a 2031 second-round draft pick to use in the trade.

A healthy starting lineup of Lillard, Trent, Middleton, Antetokounmpo and Lopez could hold their own against anyone in the East, including the defending champion Celtics. Bucks general manager Jon Horst has been aggressive in trying to improve the team throughout his tenure — finding a way to add another versatile player during the season could go a long way toward keeping Milwaukee in title contention.” Botemps wrote.

Antetokounmpo led the NBA with 251 dunks last season, while 35-year-old Brook Lopez contributed 42. That underscores Milwaukee’s concerns about age, as seven of its nine key rotation players are over 30, including 34-year-old Lillard and 33-year-old Khris Middleton, who has battled injuries. Still, signing the 25-year-old Trent could prove valuable.

While the Bucks have shown continuity under Doc Rivers, their roster lacks the youthful explosiveness seen in other Eastern Conference title contenders. If the team wants to make a deep playoff run and compete for another ring, it needs to address that flaw immediately, as ESPN pointed out.
