Saturday will be the biggest non-conference home game for Wisconsin football, perhaps ever. It’s been a game on the schedule for fans for years. The Badgers will welcome #4 Alabama to Camp Randall Stadium. It’s part of a home-and-away schedule that will see the Badgers travel to Alabama next year. Wisconsin football is an unimpressive 2-0 after facing an FCS team and a non-Power 4 team. It could be a long afternoon Saturday. Here’s an early look at Alabama.
Wisconsin Football Must Stop Jalen Milroe
The Crimson Tide still have a lot of faces to replace from last season. But quarterback Jalen Milroe is back, and he’s the one the Wisconsin football defense needs to stop. Milroe is a threat with both his arms and legs. Of the 15 touchdowns the Alabama defense has scored in the first two games, Milroe has accounted for nine of them (five passing, four rushing).
Wisconsin football quarterback Tyler Van Dyke threw for more yards than Milroe, but it’s clear he’s a massive part of what the Crimson Tide wants to do. This will be the first Power 4 team they face this year. It’s also the first true road game for first-year coach Kalen DeBoer.
Alabama is prone to stumbles
Alabama has lost four fumbles in two games. Part of that probably has to do with the recent offense getting into a rhythm, but it’s worth noting that those first two games were at home and against non-Power 4 teams.
The Wisconsin football defense needs to generate a lot of turnovers Saturday. There’s no doubt about it. There’s not enough firepower in the Wisconsin football offense to get into a shootout with Alabama. They’ve been prone to putting the ball on the ground the first two weeks. This could be a good opportunity for defensive coordinator Mike Tressel.
Explosive attack
Fifteen touchdowns is a lot over two games, regardless of who the opponent is. Alabama has also scored more than 100 points and is averaging 52.5 points per game so far. This is a team that can score points in the rush.
Last week the Crimson Tide battled South Florida. They managed to score 28 points in the last six minutes of the game, blowing the Bulls out of the water. Alabama can push the tempo at any time with the talent they have. Wisconsin football can’t do that and can’t. They have to make both sides of the ball uncomfortable for Alabama the entire game. Otherwise, there’s no chance of a massive upset on Saturday.
