Packers WR Jayden Reed named FedEx Air/Ground Player of the Week for Week 1

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed is one of six nominees for the FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week award for Week 1 of the 2024 season.

The other nominees are Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Saquon Barkley, Houston Texans quarterback Joe Mixon and Los Angeles Chargers quarterback JK Dobbins.

Reed produced 171 total yards on five touches in the Packers’ Week 1 loss to the Eagles. He turned four catches into 138 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown, and his only rushing attempt resulted in a 33-yard touchdown.

Reed’s 138 receiving yards were the most by any player in Week 1. His 171 total yards were second only to Mixon’s 178. Reed was one of eight players to score at least two touchdowns. Reed, Barkley and Xavier Worthy were the only players to catch a touchdown and score a touchdown in Week 1.

Unlike previous years, when different players were selected for both the air and ground teams, the award is now decided by selecting two of the top six players from a given week.

From the awards page:

“Players will no longer be limited to winning Air or Ground awards. Beginning this season, fans can vote each week of the regular season for two players from a group of six who have demonstrated the best offensive performances. The FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year Awards will be announced during the NFL Honors ceremony in New Orleans during the week of Super Bowl LIX.”

Packers fans can vote for Reed Here.

This year, FedEx will make a weekly donation of $2,000 in honor of each winner to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) across the United States.
