Wisconsin Badgers: What to Look for in Defense Against #4 Alabama Crimson Tide

The Wisconsin Badgers defense could make things fascinating against the #4 Alabama Crimson Tide. Wisconsin will need to put on an ugly front against Alabama if it wants to have a chance at pulling off a home upset this weekend.

In the first two games of the season, the Badgers have given up 14 points against the Western Michigan Broncos and just 13 points against South Dakota. The Wisconsin defense will face a different challenge against the Crimson Tide on Saturday.

PFF Questions Wisconsin Badgers Defense Against Jalen Milroe and Alabama Crimson Tide Wide Receivers

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been blessed with a number of talented wide receivers over the years, and this year is no different. Max Chadwick and Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus watched the game between Alabama and Wisconsin.

With the Badgers playing defense, they want to know how Jalen Milroe and the wide receivers are doing against Wisconsin’s defense. Focus on professional football he said:

Wisconsin blitzing at an average rate, his 37.5% blitzing is 57th in the country this season. But he has a defense that could hold up if Luke Fickell decides to send more of the ball to the house against Milroe. The Badgers started the year with one of my top 10 high schools in the country thanks to stars like defensive quarterback Hunter Wohler and defender Ricardo Hallman.

Blitzing in this game could be a strength for the Badgers. Jalen Milroe is a good playmaker, but he can make mistakes against the Crimson Tide. Milroe can be a factor in the ground game, but he wasn’t last week against the USF Bulls.

First-year wide receiver Ryan Williams could be a problem to cover

The Wisconsin Badgers’ biggest defense problem this weekend against the Alabama Crimson Tide will be facing off against freshman wide receiver Ryan WilliamsHe caught six passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 34.5 yards per catch.

Williams is by far the best wide receiver on Alabama’s roster. Not only will he be a problem for the Badgers, but he’ll also be a problem when it comes time to play in the SEC. If Wisconsin lets Ryan Williams run free, it’s going to be a long day for the Wisconsin defense.
