Packers downgrade Jordan Love to questionable, elevate QB Sean Clifford from practice squad

More clarity Saturday on Jordan Love’s status for Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. The Green Bay Packers downgraded Love — who is dealing with a knee injury — to questionable on the injury report and elevated quarterback Sean Clifford to the practice squad.

Assuming Love is inactive and does not play, Clifford will be the backup quarterback behind starting Malik Willis in Sunday’s game against the Colts.

The Packers initially listed Love as questionable to play, leaving the door open for him to play against the Colts. His downgrade to questionable likely means Love won’t play — no player listed as questionable by the Packers played in a game last season.

It’s possible the Packers wanted to give Love more time to heal before making a decision on his player status, or the team was simply preparing for the Colts game.

Clifford, a fifth-round pick in 2023, backed up Love last season, appearing in two games, throwing one pass — a 37-yard touchdown pass to Bo Melton — and kneeling three times.

The Packers promoted running back Ellis Merriweather from the practice squad last week. Clifford was the only promotion in Week 2.
