More water, “burning” cattails on deck ahead of duck hunting season at Theresa Marsh in Wisconsin

Theresa Marsh will look a little different for waterfowl hunters this fall. Water levels will be higher than they have been in the past four years, and if all goes according to plan, cattails in two areas will be burned before the regular duck season begins.
DNR wildlife biologist Steffen Peterson is the property manager for the Theresa Marsh Wildlife Area, which covers 5,990 acres in northwest Washington and southeast Dodge counties. He said the water level has been lowered in April for the past four years to encourage vegetation growth that supports waterfowl.
