They learned the news before the start of their game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night, when their division rival Chicago Cubs lost to the Oakland Athletics. As the final outs of the Cubs game rolled around, manager Pat Murphy and Bob Uecker were able to share a moment together.

During the pregame press conference, Pat Murphy recounted watching the final outings of the Cubs-Athletes game with Bob Uecker. Murphy described the experience as “amazing.” He also recalled that no one had picked the Brewers to be division champions before the season began.

How did the 2024 Milwaukee Brewers overcome adversity and win the division championship?
After losing former manager Craig Counsell in the offseason, trading ace Corbin Burnes and losing players like Wade Miley, Christian Yelich and Robert Gasser for the entire season, the Brewers have shrugged off adversity, remaining relentless, undaunted and focused on “winning tonight.” They don’t have a ton of huge names on their team, but they’re finding ways to get on base, running and using their speed to their advantage, playing excellent defense and getting the most out of pitchers who have been written off by other teams in baseball.

2024 marks the Brewers’ third division title in four years and fourth in the last seven seasons. Across the board, 2024 is the earliest they have won a championship in team history. They are also the first team in Major League Baseball to clinch a division title this year.
