Green Bay Packers first-round draft pick Jordan Morgan has re-injured the same shoulder he first injured in training camp, and coach Matt LaFleur has no timetable for when the rookie will return.
Morgan missed all three practices this week after re-injuring the injury he suffered in the first half of Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts.
How long will Morgan be out of the game?
“We’ll see. Time will tell,” LaFleur said Friday. “It’ll definitely come out (Sunday).”
The final injury report was released Friday, and Morgan was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
Morgan first injured his shoulder in August and missed three weeks, including all three preseason games. He entered the 2024 regular season in the rotation with Sean Rhyan at right guard and played in 48 total snaps, including 28 in the season opener in Brazil and 20 before getting hurt last Sunday.
Morgan’s absence will open the door for Rhyan to become a full-time starter at right guard. It also complicates the backup situation at several positions. Andre Dillard, Kadeem Telfort and rookies Jacob Monk and Travis Glover are the other four backup offensive linemen on the 53-man roster, and Monk — a fifth-round pick out of Duke — is likely the top backup at guard.
Perhaps most importantly, the injury to a teenage player comes with concerns about missing time — both in practice and on the field — and stunting his development, especially considering Morgan is learning a fresh position as a freshman.
The Packers did not place Morgan on the injured reserve list on Friday. That move could happen Saturday. If he is placed on the injured reserve list, Morgan would have to miss at least four games before he is eligible to return.
