Sections Aaron Jones Writes Letter to The Players Tribune Ahead of Return to Green Bay

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Jones wrote a touching letter titled “Message to Green Bay” ahead of his return to Lambeau Field on Sunday as a member of the rival Minnesota Vikings.

Jones posted the letter — in which he thanked his teammates, fans and the Packers organization — on The Players Tribune website.

The key words were said at the end: “There won’t be a G on the helmet on Sunday, but there will always be one in my heart,” Jones wrote.

Jones recounted some of the highlights of his Packers career, including the faith Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers showed in him as a rookie, the support from fans in person and online as he transitioned into the Packers’ starting quarterback, and the outpouring of support from the organization as he grieved the sudden loss of his father.

Drafted in the fifth round in 2017 by former Packers general manager Ted Thompson, Jones finished his successful career in Green Bay by ranking third in team history in rushing yards (5,940), fourth in rushing touchdowns (45) and seventh in total touchdowns (63).

The Packers released Jones in March. He signed with the rival Vikings and had a great start to the season, rushing for 325 yards and a pair of touchdowns, key elements in Minnesota’s surprising 3-0 start.

This is the game Jones likely has circled: a return to Green Bay. Jones spent seven seasons with the Packers. At some point in the near future, Jones will return to Green Bay as a modern member of the Packers Hall of Fame. On Sunday, he will wear the uniform of an opponent.

Post-career accolades aside, there’s football to take care of first. The Packers and Vikings kick off at Lambeau Field at noon Sunday.
