Spring survey in Wisconsin shows waterfowl numbers stable, while pheasant and sage grouse numbers decline

Results from the Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) annual spring survey of Wisconsin sage-grouse, pheasant and waterfowl have been released, and the spring waterfowl breeding survey showed stable population numbers and habitat conditions for migratory birds.
Meanwhile, spring surveys showed sage-grouse and pheasant numbers below the five-year average, which includes an 11% decline in sage-grouse activity statewide compared to the 2022 spring survey.
