Why former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes suddenly leaves the game against the New York Yankees

The Baltimore Orioles are heading to the MLB postseason for the second year in a row, and this time they have ace and former Milwaukee Brewers star Corbin Burnes with them. Burnes already played his final regular-season game of 2024 on Thursday night against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. However, he was suddenly pulled from the mound after just 5.0 innings, but not due to injury or anything stern.

By MLB Network’s Jon Morosi: :

“The initial indication from the Orioles here and Burnes is that he is not injured. There is nothing related to his health and that is why he left the field. But rather, they’re trying to manage his workload because, assuming the Orioles have a wild-card series, their next game, their first or his first start, and the postseason will only be five days from now, so he’ll be resting regularly

The Orioles clearly just want to give Burnes a rest for the upcoming postseason, especially with Baltimore scheduled to play in the wild-card game. At the time of Burnes’ withdrawal from the playoffs, the Yankees still needed a win to officially clinch the American League Central, but Baltimore knew that with a few games left in the playoffs and with the Orioles four games ahead of New York, there was a powerful possibility that They will be the first to face the wild card.

Burnes left the Yankees game after allowing an earned run on two hits, an issued walk and nine strikeouts in 69 pitches. The Baltimore bullpen then wasted Burnes’ great start as the Orioles gave up nine runs to the Bronx Bombers in a 10-1 O loss.

Burnes, who played his first six seasons in the huge leagues for the Brewers, finishes his 2024 career with a 1.509 record, a 2.92 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in 32 starts.
