Packers TE Luke Musgrave hopes to play against the Rams despite suffering an ankle injury

Luke Musgrave did not practice all week with a up-to-date ankle injury, but the second-year pass catcher is expected to check his ankle on Sunday before the game in hopes of playing against the Los Angeles Rams. according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. According to Schefter, even if Musgrave is available, he is expected to be circumscribed.

Musgrave, a second-round pick in the 2023 draft, did not practice this week on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but was listed as questionable on the final injury report.

In four games to start the 2024 season, Musgrave has just five catches on seven targets for 22 yards. His average depth of target is just 6.1 yards per PFF.

Last season, Musgrave caught his first career touchdown pass in a victory over the Rams at Lambeau Field. He finished with three catches for 51 yards, a career-high at the time.

Musgrave gave way to Tucker Kraft at the start of the season. He was on the field for just 108 snaps, or about 39 percent of the offensive snaps. Kraft played 227 snaps.

The Packers have Ben Sims as their backup at tight end, and Andrew Beck – an experienced linebacker – could play snaps as a blocker for Matt LaFleur if Musgrave is unavailable.

Musgrave is one of seven players whose performance on Sunday may be questionable. Cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Carrington Valentine, offensive linemen Elgton Jenkins and Jordan Morgan and middle linebacker Edgerrin Cooper are also questionable, and defensive lineman Jonathan Ford, who was designated to return from injured reserve, is questionable according to the injury report but will not play.
