The Milwaukee Brewers ended their 2024 MLB campaign in a particularly painful way. Just when it seemed like they were going to pull off a come-from-behind Wild Card series win against the New York Mets, the Brewers faltered, suffering a 4-2 loss in Game 3 on Thursday night.
The Brewers entered the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead, with the ever-reliable Devin Williams looking to close it out. But Williams got into trouble.
He allowed Francisco Lindor to walk and open things up in the ninth frame. After striking out Mark Vientos, Williams allowed Brandon Nimmo to hit a single that advanced Lindor to third base. Then came Pete Alonso, who hit a three-run home run to put the Mets ahead. Williams later hit Jesse Winker with a pitch, and Starling Marte had an RBI single to extend the Mets’ lead.
The Milwaukee Brewers’ 2024 MLB season ends in heartbreak
After the game, Brewers manager Pat Murphy expressed pride in his team, but also admitted he felt the pain of the loss.

Pat Murphy said he loves this team and will never be able to repeat the result from 2024. “It looks like a tragedy,” he said.
The Brewers lost Game 1 of the Mets series 8-4, but fought back in Game 2, with Jackson Chourio and Garrett Mitchell giving Milwaukee a spark. In Game 3, the Brewers broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning with a solo home run by Jake Bauers, followed by another solo home run by Sal Frelick. At this point, Milwaukee smelled of victory, but things just weren’t going their way.
During the 2024 MLB regular season, the Brewers went 93-69 and won the National League Central Division for the second consecutive year.
