A tsunami of opposition to boat wakes rolled through Wisconsin in mid-April during statewide environmental hearings, with 62% of voters supporting restrictions on these popular wave-making boats.
“Wakeboats” – which have water-collecting ballast tanks at the stern, the weight of which helps generate surf-sized waves while towing wakeboarders – have sparked divisive debates, particularly near shore and on tiny lakes. In response, wakeboat opponents submitted six advisory questions for the spring hearings, which attracted 11,556 online voters from April 10-13.
