The name Jesse Winker is a surefire way to get Milwaukee Brewers fans fired up. On the contrary, Winker feels the same way about the city of Milwaukee recently recorded an album saying that he would “hate the city forever.” Here’s the latest on the dispute between Winker and the Brewers.
What conflict do Milwaukee Brewers fans have with Jesse Winker?
Heading into the 2023 season, Jesse Winker was a huge offseason addition for the Brewers. Unfortunately, he has struggled significantly this year, but he has been a surprise addition to their postseason lineup. His lack of production irritated fans so much that he was booed during his return to American Family Field (as a member of the New York Mets) during the final series of the 2024 regular season.
Once the Mets reached the playoffs, they returned to Milwaukee for the Wild Card Series. Jesse Winker started the first game, hit a clutch two RBI triples early, and was later caught barking with shortstop Willy Adames. Later in the series, Winker stole second base, later called center field, which caused a long delay in the game, and then remained in the game. He then scored and smashed his helmet into pieces after crossing home plate.

What beef does Jesse Winker have with the Milwaukee Brewers?
In addition to being booed, Jesse Winker was struck down by two pitches against the Brewers. During the regular season (delayed September), Frankie Montas hit him in the buttock area and there was a belief that it may have been intentional. Winker also said that being hit by that pitch caused the injury.
“It kind of caused a disc in my lower back that was bothering me… so I was definitely pretty pissed off about it. I’ve dealt with this [injury]but this time of year everyone is dealing with different things.
-Jesse Winker told the New York Post.
After being hit by a pitch in the regular season, Jesse Winker was hit by a second pitch during the Wild Card Series. Closer Devin Williams, who had a disastrous ninth inning during the third and final game of the series, struck him out in the ninth.
Jesse Winker ‘will forever hate the city of Milwaukee’
Discussing these recent events with the New York Post, Jesse Winker said he will forever hate the city of Milwaukee. In particular, he talked about fans booing him before they signaled it.
“It’s part of sport, these fans can react to you however they want. They pay for tickets. They are the veins and blood of our sport… but I will forever hate the city of Milwaukee.”
-Jesse Winker
