The Green Bay Packers added to their practice squad on Wednesday, returning veteran cornerback Robert Rochell to the field.
Rochell’s journey last week culminated in his return to the practice squad.
With a roster spot open following the suspension of receiver Romeo Doubs, the Packers signed Rochell from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Saturday. He played in Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Rams, appearing on 11 special teams snaps. Rochell was penalized for holding while blocking on a punt, but he also received a holding while covering a punt.
The Packers released Rochell on Monday. He agreed to be released and is now back on the practice squad.
The Packers elevated Rochell from the practice squad twice before signing him to the squad. Players are allowed three hills. Since he was signed to the lively roster and released, his elevation counter was reset.
Rochell, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft by the Rams, made 12 special teams tackles against the Tennessee Titans and 11 special teams tackles against the Minnesota Vikings. He had a tackle against the Titans, but missed a tackle against the Vikings.
Photos of his 34 special teams teams divided into groups: 14 covering kickoffs, 9 covering punts, 9 blocking punt returns and 2 blocking kickoff returns.
The Packers once again have three linebackers on the practice squad: Rochell and rookies Kamal Hadden and Kalen King.
Rochell arrived in Green Bay last October. He appeared in nine games in 2023, playing 112 snaps on special teams, and was lively in both playoff games.
