Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur knows a thing or two about facing his younger brother. Just last week, LaFleur’s Packers defeated the Los Angeles Rams, whose offensive coordinator is Mike LaFleur – Matt’s younger brother.
So what is LaFleur’s advice for winger Bo Melton ahead of Sunday’s game at Lambeau Field against younger brother Max Melton?
“Kick his ass,” LaFleur said Thursday, smiling.
Max Melton, a rookie, is a shortstop for the Arizona Cardinals. Since Bo will be taking snaps in LaFleur’s defense and Max will be taking snaps from the perimeter in the Cardinals’ defense, it’s possible that both Meltons will take the field together on Sunday and compete against each other.
LaFleur believes it would be a great battle between the Meltons.
“If Max Melton is anything like Bo Melton, and I think he is, just by evaluating him during the draft process, I know he’s going to be a top competitor,” LaFleur said.
And he wants Big Brother to impose his will on him.
“I was teasing Bo, a big brother has to tease a little brother, so you have to make it happen.”
Bo Melton committed to the Packers in 2023 and emerged as LaFleur’s starting quarterback later in the season, rushing for 100 yards in Week 17 and catching a touchdown pass in San Francisco in the postseason. Through five games in 2024, Melton has two catches for 40 yards and two rushes for eight yards.
The Cardinals made Max Melton the 43rd overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Both Melton brothers went on to Rutgers and were selected in the NFL draft. Who will write the next chapter in Melton’s football journey? Sunday’s clash at Lambeau Field presents a golden opportunity.
