The Green Bay Packers moved linebacker Andrew Beck from the practice squad to the gameday squad in Week 6. The move was announced Saturday, making Beck available to Matt LaFleur and the Packers for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Beck’s level has been elevated in each of the last two weeks. The veteran played three snaps on offense and five on special teams during the Packers’ victory over the Los Angeles Rams last week.
The Packers consider Beck to be a fullback, but he can play snaps as a power tackle when needed. Luke Musgrave went on injured reserve on Friday, and although the Packers replaced him in the lineup with John FitzPatrick, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to fit into that role immediately. Beck was used as a blocker in three games last week.
Beck played 67 career games. He has 25 catches for 214 yards and three touchdowns, including his career-high of 13 catches and two touchdowns last season in 15 games with the Houston Texans. The Packers signed Beck to a practice contract on August 30.
The Packers didn’t pick up cornerback, which suggests Jaire Alexander (questionable, groin) could play Sunday. Robert Rochell has lost sleep – either by picking up or signing – for each of the last three weeks.
Each team may designate a maximum of two players from the practice squad each week. An individual player can only be promoted from the practice squad three times per season, so Beck has one upgrade left. Beck will return to the practice squad on Monday.
