It can only mean good things when a defense matches what the Green Bay Packers’ defense last accomplished in 1996.
The 2024 Packers produced three more takeaways on Sunday, extending the team’s streak of multiple takeaway wins to six games to start the season.
According to Wes Hodkiewicz from the band’s official websitethis is the first time since the 1996 team that the Packers defense had multiple takeaways in six straight games to start the season.
During Sunday’s 34-13 victory, the Packers made up three losses. Karl Brooks forced and recovered one, Evan Williams punched one, Jaire Alexander recovered and Kenny Clark recovered a fumbled pass. All three left for the second half as the Packers slammed the door after a three-touchdown victory over the Cardinals.
For the fifth time in six games, the Packers forced three turnovers.
The Packers currently have 17 takeaways through the first six games under first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Last season, Joe Barry’s defense allowed only 18 total points in 17 regular season games.
The team’s 17 takeaways were the most against a Packers defense in the first six games of a season since scoring 19 in 2002. The 1996 defense had 25 of them.
The Packers became just the ninth NFL team since 2010 to have at least 17 takeaways in the first six games of a season, and the first since the Chicago Bears in 2018.
Will the Packers be able to keep their streak going? Before the bye come decisive moments in games against CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans and Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions.
