Many are wondering whether Daniel Freitag will be the Badgers’ starting point guard this season as a freshman or if he will be a starter off the bench. Greg Gard watches him closely in training. Gard said Evan Flood of 247sports about the freshman before the start of the 2024-2025 season:

“He has some things that you can’t physically teach.”

This is an intriguing statement from the head coach. It’s good to see that Freitag may be ready to start as a freshman considering he lost several key players from last year’s squad.

On Wisconsin Badgers website, some of Freitag’s biographies are as follows:

“Daniel Freitag (pronounced FREE-tag) is a four-star prospect from Bloomington, Minn., who is ranked as the ninth-best quarterback in the nation in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-10 guard is the tallest UW quarterback prospect in school history . As a junior at Jefferson High School, Freitag averaged 28.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He was named Metro West Conference Player of the Year while earning all-conference honors. In just three years, he became Jefferson’s all-time leading scorer.

It will be intriguing to see what kind of scoring the Badgers bring this season. AJ Storr was one of Wisconsin’s top scorers last season. If Freitag is one of five starters for this program as a freshman, he has the potential to make an immediate impact at the college basketball level.
