Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he does not believe the shoulder injury suffered by wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is a long-term problem and expects to give Wicks a week to get physically ready before Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
Wicks suffered a shoulder injury on a 9-yard catch in the first half. He left the match and did not return after being ruled out after half-time.
“We’ll give him a whole week and see where he is. I just know there’s always concern when you have a player who can’t return to the game,” LaFleur said Monday.
Wicks said Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com he sprained his shoulder after the match and expects this to continue “day by day.”
For FOX Sports’ Jordan SchultzMonday’s photo of Wicks’ shoulder allayed initial fears of a earnest injury.
In six games, Wicks recorded 11 catches for 133 yards and three touchdowns. He caught just 11 of 32 targets, struggling to finish catches, especially in tight situations. Now Wicks will have to work through an upper-body injury.
The Packers will not begin practice or release an injury report until Wednesday.
If Wicks is unavailable this week, the Packers will move up with Jayden Reed, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs as their top three receivers and Bo Melton and Malik Heath in complementary roles.
