Sections Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks dodges a bullet with shoulder injury, could suit up against Texas

After initial concerns with a shoulder injury, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks practiced on a circumscribed basis Wednesday, potentially opening the door to his presence at Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Asked if the Packers dodged a bullet in Wicks’ arm, Matt LaFleur replied after practice: “Yes, definitely.”

Wicks suffered the injury when he landed awkwardly on his right shoulder after a 9-yard catch-and-run during the team’s Week 6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. After initially being considered questionable for return, he didn’t play another snap and was ruled out at halftime.

Green Bay is fortunate to have avoided a earnest injury to Wicks, who was their best receiver early in the season. Unfortunately, Wicks has suffered a few downfalls this season which have circumscribed his impact. In his first six games, he caught 11 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns. However, according to Pro Football Focus, he has been targeted 32 times in total with four downs and is 0-of-6 on contested catches.

Despite his issues, Wicks adds an element of dynamics to the offense with his route running and post-catch running skills.

Packers players who also had circumscribed access to Wednesday’s practice included:

CB Jaire Alexander
DT Kenny Clark
TE Tucker Kraft
C Josh Myers
WR Jayden Reed
WR Christian Watson

Meanwhile, Colby Wooden, Devonte Wyatt and Elgton Jenkins did not participate.

Before the long-awaited clash with the 5-1 Texans, Green Bay will need to be as close to a full lineup as possible.
