After receiving the offer, the Wisconsin football staff started cooperation with Illinois’ top defender.
The Badgers staff extended a scholarship offer to the three-star defenseman through 2026 Nick Hankinsa native of Illinois and a player the staff has been monitoring for some time. Hankins also holds scholarship offers from Big Ten Conference rivals Illinois, as well as MAC schools Kent State, Miami Ohio State and Northern Illinois. Missouri State also has a scholarship offer for Hankins, but likely won’t be a team playing for Hankins in the future.
Hankins, a talented defensive back, not only has his sights set on excelling at the collegiate level, but so do many coaches. Missouri, Iowa and Iowa State are three high-profile schools that are keeping a close eye on Hankins and will likely become major players in the future.
The lively defensive back is known for his athleticism and ability to do just about anything his team needs. Hankins, also a talented basketball player, said he is fully focused on football and feels he can have a major impact on the team. Hankins stated, “I can play both sides of the ball and I have D1 talent on both sides of the ball.”
Hankins also added, “I can hit too, and most DBs don’t want to do that right now.” As a defensive back, Hankins has shown the most promise given his athleticism, but his skill set means he can play virtually any position on his future home team.

The scholarship offer from the Wisconsin football staff comes at a pivotal time for Hankins, as his play on the field is really taking off. It’s only a matter of time before the 2026 recruit is inundated with a slew of modern scholarship offers and program interest.

If there’s one consistent trend in Wisconsin football recruiting offers over the past few seasons, it’s that the staff frequently rewards recruits with scholarships.
When a player is truly successful on the field, the team will often offer him a scholarship as a sort of reward or perhaps a sign that the team is watching him. Wisconsin’s Hankins had seen enough and knew he had to get into the recruiting race and start making contact with a recruit.
As the recruiting process gathers pace, Hankins has begun to focus on the aspects of the process that he pays attention to. Specifically, the recruit began making a list of what he was looking for in his future college home. When asked about this, Hankins stated, “The environment is an important part because I love playing the game I love in front of people who love it too.”
Hankins also added that he is looking for a program that will allow him to “grow” and provide an environment for learning in the field.
