Wisconsin Football: Key Freshman CB was injured again during large 23-3 win

The Wisconsin football staff suffered another grave injury to a rising star Xavier Lucas during the Northwestern Wildcats victory.

Lucas, a former highly touted Florida recruit, joined the Wisconsin football program as a true freshman and impressed. The defensive back has surprised many with his commitment to Wisconsin in the past, but now he has surprised the staff with what he can do at a adolescent age. But that’s when Lucas can take the field for the Badgers.

The adolescent defensive back has struggled with injuries this season and previously slipped and fell during a match which resulted in him being sidelined. Lucas missed the game against the Northwestern Wildcats with an upper-body injury and was ruled out after leaving. It’s unclear how grave the injury is, but the adolescent defender could miss more time this season, depending on test results.

Lucas had played a solid game up to that point, defending passes against the top-ranked Wildcats who were targeted. The defender also had a tackle during the game before leaving the pitch with an upper body injury.

During the game, Lucas was a successful defensive tackle for the Wisconsin football team. Lucas serves as extra coverage and is often put to the test as offenses look to avoid fellow cornerback Ricardo Hallman. Against Western Michigan, Lucas notably secured an interception that sealed the game for the Wisconsin Badgers.

Due to the novel injury that occurred against the Wildcats, the Wisconsin football team may play without Lucas for several weeks, depending on the severity of the injury.

In college athletics, detailed injury information is not needed, and staff at each program are not required to provide any injury details.

With this in mind, many fans often speculate what the injuries might be based on descriptions offered by coaches. Lucas had previously suffered an unlabeled injury, and after the fall, many believed it was a concussion.

Once again, Lucas’ absence was felt as the defensive back provided great cover for the defense. Without Lucas, the best choice would be Amare Snowden, who would take on the same role in the future of the Wisconsin Badgers defense.

The exact injury in this case is unknown, as the game in which Lucas was injured appeared to be relatively normal. There was no stoppage in play, meaning the defender was on the sideline under his own power. There will likely be an update on the linebacker’s condition on Monday when the Wisconsin football staff meets with the media ahead of the week of practice.
