The Wisconsin football staff has made a coup for the 2025 defensive lineman Drayden Pavey away from Purdue boilers.
Pavey, a three-star prospect from Ohio, has been working with the Purdue Boilermakers for the past four months. The defensive lineman announced that his commitment to the Boilermakers has ended and he will reopen his recruitment. Shortly thereafter Wisconsin football the team has become a clear favorite for recruitment.
Previously, the Wisconsin football staff had been heavily recruiting Pavey along with fellow defensive lineman Kyler Garcia. Both Pavey and Garcia announced commitments to other schools, and the two losses disappointed the Wisconsin football staff. Typically when Wisconsin focuses on a player they land on him, however they lost two players who likely received a ton of love from the staff.
After Pavey announced his intention to leave the Boilermakers following their forgettable season, the Wisconsin front office had no intention of allowing the linebacker to play elsewhere twice.
Just three days after his discharge, Pavey announced he would become a Wisconsin Badger in the future. Pavey is an critical player for Wisconsin, and the player, according to the staff, receives a much lower rating than he actually played.
Wisconsin football commit Drayden Pavey offers strength and a high game motor
While Pavey may be the 724th recruit in the class, the Wisconsin football staff has made it clear that such a ranking is a mistake. Pavey’s on-field behavior should explain why the Wisconsin staff feels this way about the talented athlete.
Pavey is a large, powerful player, standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing about 310 pounds with full pads. The defensive lineman mainly plays power football, knocking down opposing linemen or driving through them towards the ball carrier. However, another critical part of Pavey’s game is his high motor and willingness to fight until the end of the game.
Often players will start to snail-paced down when it seems like the game is over, linemen especially sometimes seem to stop fighting through blocks. However, Pavey does quite the opposite and consistently works to find ways to make an impact. As the play begins to move away from Pavey, the lineman steps back into the play and puts himself in position to make an impact.
Another critical aspect of Pavey’s game is his clever moveset, which he uses against opponent blockers. Pavey knows when to exploit force and when he needs to move past the blocker with finesse to make a play. While this may seem minor, it allows Pavey to avoid getting gassed and also increases his defensive play.
