Wisconsin Badgers: Fans upset and want quarterback Braedyn Locke benched after loss to Penn State Nittany Lions

The Wisconsin Badgers maintained their rivalry with the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday evening. In the first half, it seemed at times that Wisconsin would be able to beat Penn State, but everything changed in the second half.

Wisconsin quarterback Braedyn Locke (18) throws during the second quarter of a game against Penn State on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.

With the Badgers leading 10-7 in the third quarter, Braedyn Locke intercepted Jaylen Reed and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown. Penn State never looked back after that moment against Wisconsin, and the Nittany Lions went on to win the game against the Badgers 28-13.

Locke has played a handful of games for the Badgers since Tyler Van Dyke suffered a season-ending injury. Braedyn Locke didn’t perform well against the Nittany Lions. He completed 22 of 42 passes for 217 yards and one interception. Locke did not throw a touchdown pass in this game.

After the game, there were Badgers fans who wanted Locke on the bench. Here’s what they wrote on Twitter:

For better or worse, they’re stuck with Locke as quarterback for now. Mabrey Mettauer is the backup point guard for the Wisconsin Badgers. If Wisconsin continues to lose or Braedyn Locke continues to play poorly, perhaps the first-year quarterback will play before the end of the season.

The Iowa Hawkeyes’ next opponent

Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson (2) holds tight to Northwestern’s Jack Oyola (27) on his way to scoring a touchdown in the second quarter Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa.

With that loss, the Badgers’ record dropped to 5-3 under head coach Luke Fickell, while the Nittany Lions’ record improved to 7-0 this season. The Iowa Hawkeyes will face the Wisconsin Badgers next weekend. Wisconsin will travel to Iowa, with kickoff on NBC at 6:30 p.m. ET.

The Hawkeyes are also 5-3 this year. This will be a game where Braedyn Locke will have to be better. If that doesn’t happen, calls for Mabrey Mettauer to play for the Badgers will grow louder from fans.
