Milwaukee Bucks: What MarJon Beauchamp needs to improve in 2024-2025

While other NBA teams have performed better this offseason, the Milwaukee Bucks have only made a few compact moves. At this stage, it is imperative that newborn striker MarJon Beauchamp make the leap next season and support Giannis Antetokounmpo’s team fight for another ring.

Beauchamp, is now entering its third season with the Bucks, he faces increasing pressure to solidify his role on the team. After a fairly promising campaign for the rookie, his progress appears to have plateaued, with the number of games played dropping from 52 to 48 last season.

While his shooting has improved – his field goal percentage was .488 and .400 from three-point range – his defensive contributions have fallen tiny of expectations, raising questions about his future with the team.

Beauchamp was initially touted as a defensive-first player, but his inability to establish himself in that part of the pitch impaired his overall impact. Having made just one appearance last season, compared to eleven in his debut year, he has struggled to establish himself in a consistent role. His net rating, while improving to -4.2 from -12.5, still suggests a challenge in terms of contributing positively to matches.

Speaking of defense, the Bucks need Beauchamp to become reliable in that area of the game. This is emphasized Dalton Sell in his NBA analysis for Behind the Buck Pass.

“It’s breakout time for third-year winger MarJon Beauchamp. The Bucks signed him because they needed an athletic wing to support them defensively, and Beauchamp has shown in flashes that he can do that, but not consistently. If he wants to stay, he will have to show that he can actually be an effective defender by taking on tough matchups that will allow him to achieve more on the pitch,” Sell wrote.

Looking ahead, the upcoming season will be critical for Beauchamp. If he fails to secure a solid spot in the rotation, he risks losing his NBA career. There remains optimism that his athleticism and energy could help in an off-ball role, but he needs to utilize these attributes effectively to make a significant impact.

Ultimately, Beauchamp’s development this season will be key. He needs to improve his defensive skills and find a niche in the Bucks lineup to avoid being sidelined as an ordinary prospect. The pressure is on him to improve and prove his worth as a valuable asset to the team.
