‘Real’ sections for Packers QB Jordan I love playing against Lions, RB Josh Jacobs is confident he will play

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love said it’s “realistic” that he’ll be able to play Sunday with a groin injury, and running back Josh Jacobs is confident he’ll be able to play after suffering a modern ankle injury.

Both Love and Jacobs missed Wednesday’s practice. Love said he’ll take it “one day at a time” and he “definitely” wants to play against the Detroit Lions.

“I think it’s realistic,” Love said when asked about playing seven days after suffering a groin injury on a third-down play in the first quarter of a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Love said he has made progress over the past few days and expects to feel better each day.

“I definitely feel better,” Love said. “I think we will make some improvements every day. I definitely feel better than I did on Sunday.”

Coach Matt LaFleur left the door open for Love playing Sunday, even if he doesn’t practice the next two days. Love said he could play without practice reps, but admitted it wouldn’t be the “ideal format for trying to play a game,” especially against a team as talented as the Lions.

What substantial boxes does he need to check before Sunday’s game? Ability to move around the pocket, reduced chance of aggravating injuries, and being himself as a quarterback.

“Just being able to move around a little bit and be myself and play and not just try to get stuck in the pocket and not be able to move if I need to move,” Love said.

While Love still has many hurdles to overcome, Jacobs is confident he will be ready for Sunday.

“I feel pretty good,” Jacobs said. “I’ll be ready for the game.”

Jacobs said he took 4-5 hits to his ankle against the Jaguars and that missing Wednesday’s practice was more due to maintenance needs than a suggestion that he might miss Sunday’s game.

Jacobs threw for 127 yards and two scores in a 30-27 win over the Jaguars.

Love said Jacobs has been a “steady pillar” and “talented runner” for the Packers during his first year in Green Bay.

“He plays a huge role in our offense, helping us get in shape,” Love said.

The Packers will practice again on Thursday and Friday before giving their final health report on Friday afternoon.
