Sections Stars, Stallions and Duds after the Packers’ Week 9 loss to the Lions

The Green Bay Packers were unable to overcome a disastrous pick-six and continued to struggle with penalties, downs and ending red zone drives for touchdowns in Sunday’s disappointing loss to the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.

A 24-14 loss, during which the Lions scored 24 straight points between the first and third quarters, dropped the Packers to 6-3 at the end of the week.

Here are the stars, studs and duds from the Packers’ Week 9 loss to the Lions:

Stars

WR Jayden Reed: He caught passes of 41, 32 and 28 yards and finished with a game-high 113 yards. Reed was also wide open and likely would have made a great play if the blocking had been better on Jordan Love’s pick-six. Reed had two catches, including a 28-yarder on the fourth and fifth quarters.

Heels

RB Josh Jacobs: His 15 touches totaled 105 yards, although most of the efficiency came in the first half. Jacobs battled ankle pain and briefly left the field. He ran for 35 yards on the first drive, including runs of eight yards, nine yards and 11 yards. His best run came in the first half for 37 yards. They trailed by three points in the second half with Jacobs injured and the Packers only had a three-point lead at halftime. A better game plan and a healthier ankle could have led to a huge day and a completely different end result. Jacobs now has five straight games with 90 or more total yards.

Duds

WR Dontayvion Wicks: The failure to complete holds continued. He missed a third-down conversion on a perfect throw early in the second half, and his fourth-quarter drop in the end zone cost the Packers seven points. Wicks was targeted three times and failed to make the catch. It’s had a terrible second season. Wicks is often open, but the Packers can’t trust him to finish the play. His catch percentage in nine games is 37.5.
