The Wisconsin Badgers made a substantial change by firing offensive coordinator Phil Longo, which could open the door to another change.
WITH Longo went after the Badgersquarterback Braedyn Locke could be the next person to lose his position in Madison. Locke could potentially be benched throughout the season due to his play and turnovers allowed. However, the Badgers have not previously been in the same situation they are in now, where different minds will be involved in the offense.
Locke, a struggling quarterback who has been in the starting lineup for two seasons in a row, now has to prove his worth. Previously, Longo was the person who replaced Locke and was responsible for the further development of the quarterback. However, without Longo, Locke is not as protected because everyone has to prove that they are capable of winning games for the team.
To date, Locke has recorded 1,514 yards passing, nine touchdowns and nine interceptions, starting seven games and playing in eight. The quarterback has a 55.1% completion rate this season and his quarterback rating is 45.5, which ranks 96th overall in college football.
Locke was also expected to be a dual-threat quarterback for the Wisconsin Badgers, which turned out to be the complete opposite. Locke has thrown for a total of 19 yards this season on just 18 carries and two touchdowns for the team.
Both Locke’s inaccuracy and inability to get outside the pocket made the quarterback a prime candidate for the bench.
Should the Wisconsin Badgers bench Braedyn Locke now and move forward?
While it previously seemed like there would be a definite no-no to the idea of moving the quarterback to the bench, the Wisconsin Badgers may finally relent after firing Longo.
Behind Locke is point guard Mabrey Mettauer, who has appeared in two games for the Badgers this season. The quarterback will be redshirted for the rest of the season, but on the other hand, the Wisconsin Badgers don’t have much left to lose. As many fans have stated, Locke has had the opportunity to play on two different teams long enough to prove that he is unfortunately not capable of playing at this level.
Put him on the bench. It’s straightforward. It doesn’t matter if you’re not sure Mabrey is ready. You know 100% that Locke can’t act.

Positive spin: The defense played well enough to beat the No. 1 team in the country
Negative Attitude: What the hell are you doing with Braedyn Locke? #Badgers

Regardless of whether the Wisconsin Badgers decide to bench Locke, the team will have to take another very strenuous look at who or what is currently hindering the program. Longo unfortunately had difficulty fulfilling the duties expected by the team, which resulted in his quick dismissal before the end of the season.
