The Milwaukee Brewers have decided to add two pitchers to their 40-man roster. The move provides both players with protection for the upcoming Rule 5 Draft. Right-handers Logan Henderson and Chad Patrick have been added to the 40-man roster.
Milwaukee Brewers add Logan Henderson to the 40-man roster
Logan Henderson was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Brewers. He has been JuCo’s most available arm this year, and after a leisurely start in the professional rankings, his stock has skyrocketed over the past two seasons. The team’s current 11th-ranked prospect made 18 starts in 2023, posting an ERA of 2.75. Last year, he climbed three levels, finished in Triple-A and had an ERA of 3.32. On the mound, his changeup was considered his best pitch.
Milwaukee Brewers add Chad Patrick to the 40-man roster
Chad Patrick was acquired in November 2023 when the Brewers traded Abraham Toro to the Oakland Athletics. In his first year in Milwaukee, he won the minor league pitching triple crown. This included leading the International League (Triple-A) in wins (14), ERA (2.90) and strikeouts (145). He also amassed 136.1 innings this year with a 9.57 K:9 and 1.09 WHIP.
Are any of the players the Milwaukee Brewers left unprotected highly likely to be selected in the 2024 Rule-5 Draft?
There are many players left unprotected by the Brewers, but notable players include pitchers Coleman Crow and Shane Smith, as well as position players Wes Clarke and Ernesto Martinez Jr. Crow began his comeback from Tommy John surgery during the Arizona Fall League, Smith had a breakout campaign in 2024 but got his feet saturated in Triple-A by the end of the year, and Martinez Jr. didn’t play higher than Doulbe-A. This makes Clarke the most likely potential candidate for a Rule 5 Draft selection. Over the past two seasons, he has hit 47 home runs and accumulated 152 RBIs.
