Sections Week 12 Stars, Stallions and Duds Packers win over 49ers

Thanks to three takeaways of 21 points and three touchdowns from Josh Jacobs, the Green Bay Packers overtook the shorthanded San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

The 49ers were missing Brock Purdy, Trent Williams and Nick Bosa, but the Packers did what every player should do against a short-handed, shaky opponent: they dominated. Green Bay led 17-0 and 24-7 and finished the 28-point victory with 14 straight points in the fourth quarter.

Here are the stars, studs and duds from the Packers’ Week 12 victory over the 49ers:

Stars

RB Josh Jacobs: He scored three 1-yard touchdowns, broke 15 tackles (per Next Gen Stats) and turned 26 carries into 106 hard-earned rushing yards. Time and time again, Jacobs made the first (and sometimes second and third) defender miss and gain extra yards. He helped solve some of the issues in the red zone by running solid near the goal line. On one of his second-half touchdowns, Jacobs carried one or two defenders into the end zone after a first down from the 2-yard line. He turned some potential negative plays into positives. Jacobs had runs of 10 and 18 yards on the first series, setting the tone early. He finished with seven carries of seven or more yards, including three of 10 or more. Number 8 was a man on a mission against the Nines.

Sr. Xavier McKinney: The former Giant made two extremely impressive plays that ended any chance of the 49ers playing in the second half. He covered Christian McCaffrey and broke up a fourth-down pass in Packers territory to start the third quarter, and his interception — and 58-yard return — on a pass to San Francisco set up a rushing touchdown.

Heels

LB Quay Walker: Great performance from the 2022 first-round pick. Walker was stopped on third down after a strip sack by Rashan Gary, had a tackle for loss on Christian McCaffrey, who returned a punt, and applied pressure leading to a sack on third down. Played brisk and decisive against a team with weapons in skill positions. Six of his tackles would have been considered “stops” if it weren’t for a few accepted penalties on others. It would probably have been a “star” performance if he had kept the gimmick’s interception in the first half.

TE Tucker Kraft: He made key blocks multiple times in the running game, and his two catches – an 11-yard touchdown run by the tight end and a 15-yarder to the 1-yard line – were key plays for the Packers in the red. zone.

K. Brandon McManus: The veteran had the opportunity to kick a field goal in the freezing frosty at Lambeau Field and made a 51-yard field goal. McManus also scored all five extra points. Right now, the kicker position provides a reassuring and comforting confidence.

RB Emanuel Wilson: His nine rushes allowed for 41 yards. Wilson converted a third-and-1 in the first half and gained 9 yards and 18 yards on scores in the first half.

WR Romeo Doubs: He had a drop that almost resulted in a turnover, but Doubs also converted a third-and-11 (29-yard catch), a third-and-5 (10-yard catch) and a third-and-10 (15-yard catch). after the touchdown and on third down, he assessed a pass interference penalty in the end zone, setting up another score. He left with a concussion in the third quarter, but caught three passes for 54 yards.

Duds

WR Christian Watson: His uncontested 49-yard touchdown pass was one of the few misses in the game. This is a play that Watson has to pull off 100/100 times. He helped break up a turnover-worthy shot by Jordan Love.
