‘Get ready to learn Badger Buddy’: Wisconsin football fans cry out for Ryan Day after huge Big Ten upset – Week 14

A day after the Wisconsin football team lost at home to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Big Ten witnessed a historic upset as the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes in a three-touchdown victory. Playing a game with a faint offense and in the absence of defensive superstar Will Johnson, Michigan cruised to a remarkable 13-10 victory, with Ohio State quarterback Will Howard’s final pass falling incomplete.

Following Ohio State’s historic loss, one prominent Wisconsin football account took to social media suggesting that OSU head coach Ryan Day might leave the Buckeyes, potentially reluctantly, and join the Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin is 12-13 under current head coach Luke Fickell, the worst winning percentage for a UW frontman since Don Morton in the slow 1980s.

According to Badger Barstool on Twitter:

Get ready to learn Badger, buddy @ryandaytime

It’s unthreatening to say that Wisconsin fans are not enjoying their time under head coach Luke Fickell. Since I left the Cincinnati Bearcats head coaching job for the Wisconsin Badgers vacancy in 2023, the Big Ten program has gone 12-13. Before Fickell, Wisconsin had won at least eight games 18 times since 2000. This year, their 5-7 record marks their lowest win total since 2001. Under Barry Alvarez (excluding 2020 COVID season).

Fellow Big Ten program Ohio State also ended the regular season in disappointment (on a different level than Wisconsin). Their fans are also calling for the firing of head coach Ryan Day. Routinely facing top competition and rival Michigan State, the OSU faithful are fed up with Day continuing to disappoint with a loaded lineup. Badger Barstool believes that if the Buckeyes part with Day, the Badgers could make a move for the bench boss. Nevertheless, Wisconsin football fans remain divided on the issue, with the Fickell era mostly plagued by disappointing results:

For the first time since 2001, Wisconsin football will not have a bowl game. On Friday, with Wisconsin fighting for a bowl-eligible life, the Badgers hosted the 6-5 Minnesota Golden Gophers, down one point. Wisconsin struggled mightily on offense and didn’t find the end zone until slow in the third quarter on a pass from Braedyn Locke to winger Vinny Anthony. The Badgers failed to score again, finishing with a paltry 166 yards.

Defensively, Wisconsin had 374 yards of total offense, and Minnesota scored 24 points on the road for the first time since slow September.
