Giannis Antetokounmpo Posted a Triple-Double to Lead the Wizards: ‘I Don’t Feel Like I’m in a Rhythm’

Giannis Antetokounmpo had a monster triple-double to facilitate the Milwaukee Bucks defeat the Washington Wizards on Saturday. The Greek Freak scored 42 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, dominating the team at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

The Bucks are slowly improving their 2024-25 NBA season after a sluggish start to the year with a 2-8 record. Antetokounmpo and his crew are currently 10-9 in the Eastern Conference standings thanks to the excellent performance of their All-Star forward.

Antetokounmpo returned to action on Saturday after missing a 106-103 victory over the Miami Heat on Nov. 26 with knee problems. After the game, Giannis was highly praised by pundits for his 40-point triple-double, but remained humble.

“I’m just trying to play basketball,” Antetokounmpo said. “I go out there, have fun, move the ball, try to make the right moves and hit shots. That’s more or less what I do. I don’t know. This has to be assessed by the coach or you.”

Despite a good performance, the two-time MVP didn’t feel his rhythm on the court after his return.

“Every movement there was powerful. I managed to keep my balance and find my teammates in the corner as I walked down the field. But I don’t feel like I’m in rhythm. I didn’t feel like I was as good as I was in the last few games.

Giannis has played 17 games for the Bucks this season, averaging 32.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists. Milwaukee has a six-game winning streak and will look to extend it in Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons. It will be an NBA Cup match, and the balance of both teams is 3-0.

The Wizards head coach had high praise for the rookie for his defense of Giannis Antetokounmpo

Although the Wizards lost to a red-hot Bucks team, they fought back to earn their third win of the year. During the game, Washington head coach Brian Keefe assigned rookie Alex Sarr to guard Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Sarr wasn’t great defensively against the eight-time All-Star. However, he had his moments against Antetokounmpo and had a surprising block on offense.

After the match, Keefe spoke very warmly about the French debutant.

“Great assignment for him,” Keefe said of Sarra. “I thought he caught it a few times. Alex reached the edge. He cut him off, told him to do some pull-ups, and then helped others too. So it wasn’t just about protecting him. He could have come and helped A [Damian] Lillard, control the paint, apply his size to facilitate other people too. I thought it was a pretty decent performance for his first defense.

The next time Sarr and Antetokounmpo will face each other is December 21.
