Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs remains in the concussion protocol as of Tuesday afternoon, and cornerback Jaire Alexander’s status is still uncertain heading into Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Doubs, who suffered a concussion on Nov. 24, and Alexander, who is recovering from a more earnest knee ligament injury, have both practiced on a confined basis over the past three days, but the Packers don’t know if either will play Thursday night.
Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Doubs remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, which includes a five-step return-to-play process. The final stage is full consent to contact from the club and consent from an individual neurological consultant. Doubs was confined on Tuesday. He still has plenty of time to finish the scoresheet and play against the Lions, but the clock is ticking.
As for Alexander, the Packers plan to discuss the situation after Tuesday’s practice. The All-Pro cornerback hasn’t played since leaving the field on Nov. 17 after just 10 snaps against the Chicago Bears. He is believed to have a torn PCL in his knee.
“We will have some more conversations,” LaFleur said Tuesday. I want to watch the tape, see where we are, talk to our coaches, talk to Ja and see where we are.”
It’s possible Alexander still needs more time – and the Packers have extra rest after Thursday night before playing the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday night – to get his knee ready to play again. While the Packers would love to have him for a gigantic run in the NFC North, Alexander returned too early in November, costing him and the Packers more time without their top corner.
The Packers will provide a final health report on Wednesday before traveling to Detroit to play the Lions on Thursday night.
