Milwaukee Brewers: A up-to-date team is emerging as a possible trade destination for Devin Williams

The Milwaukee Brewers are one of the most talked about teams in the MLB offseason. This, of course, is not because they are associated with an influential free agent. As the smallest market in the league, they rarely make large transfers.

Instead, the Brewers are often brought up because one of their future players is one of the biggest names on the free agent market. This is of course a reference to Willy Adames, who is by far the best intermediary teams can utilize.

It has long been accepted that Milwaukee would not be able to afford him, and many were surprised that they didn’t trade him last offseason, as was their custom, to gain prospects in return.

Due to the Brewers’ tendency to trade away their stars before entering free agency, many assumed they would trade two-time All-Star Devin Williams in the offseason. He enters his final season of club control in 2025 and is highly respected throughout the league.

After missing most of the 2024 season with a stress fracture in his back, Williams returned to post a 1-0 record, 1.25 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 14 saves in 22 appearances.

While the Brewers have publicly stated that they have no intention of trading closer to the offseason, that doesn’t stop MLB pundits and analysts from proposing trades involving the 2020 NL Rookie of the Year.

MLB Insider suggests that the Milwaukee Brewers are trading Devin Williams to the Texas Rangers

One of the last possible trade destinations was a team that was rarely mentioned as a potential entrant in the Devin Williams trade sweepstakes: the Texas Rangers.

Kiley McDaniel of ESPN recently wrote: :

“After a challenging 2024 season, the Rangers continue to be all-in, paying a total of $128 million to five players next season. They have a playoff-caliber lineup, but they need pitching depth, especially multiple late-inning picks in their bullpen. Williams only has one year left in control, so unlike the Crochet deal, it would cost one of Rangers’ top youthful players such as Alejandro Rosario (93 in my rankings), Emiliano Teodo or Jack Leiter – or possibly a position player like Justin Foscue.

There is no doubt that when and/or if Milwaukee decides to trade Williams, it will provide him with a huge return. The Rangers certainly have youthful prospects on the field that the Brewers would like in return, so being a potential trade partner makes sense.

However, as mentioned, the Brewers likely won’t move Williams before the trade deadline.
