The Green Bay Packers lost defensive lineman Jonathan Ford to the Chicago Bears, who signed with the Packers’ practice squad on Wednesday in the seventh round of the 2022 draft.
Ford, who suffered a calf injury in the preseason and started the season as a reserve, spent two days on the Packers’ lively roster in behind schedule October before being released and re-signed to the practice squad, where he spent the rest of the season. Now, Ford – who weighs 338 pounds – will get a chance to be on Chicago’s lively 53-man roster.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago TribuneFord will fill the starting spot for receiver DeAndre Carter, who was placed on injured reserve.
Practice squad players can leave another team’s 53-man roster at any time.
Ford spent the better part of three seasons in Green Bay but never appeared in a regular-season game. He showed flashes of breakthrough this summer, making four tackles and a stop in pre-season, while also looking impressive on the ball in Jeff Hafley’s fresh four-man attack.
The loss of Ford to the Bears opened up a spot on the practice squad that was filled by edge rusher Jeremiah Martin on Wednesday.
