Wisconsin basketball: Brad Underwood ends his streak after nine straight games against the Badgers

It’s been a while since Wisconsin basketball last beat the Illinois Fighting Illini. In fact, after an 86-80 loss to Brad Underwood’s team on Tuesday night at the State Farm Center in Champaign, the Badgers have lost to the Fighting Illini nine straight times dating back to the 2019-20 college basketball campaign.

Underwood, however, was gracious when talking about his team’s continued warm streak against Greg Gard’s team.

Illinois head coach Brad Underwood is on a nine-game winning streak over Wisconsin.

“I have a lot of respect for this coaching staff and what they do. If you stay at it long enough, certain things will happen. That’s a really good basketball team that we beat.”

The last time Wisconsin beat the Fighting Illini was on February 18, 2019, against the Badgers gave Illinois a 64-58 loss at the Kohl Center. In this contest, Brad Davison led the Badgers with 18 points, and Khalil Iverson added 16 points. In the second team, Ayo Dosunmu led the charge for Illinois with 13 points.

The loss to the Fighting Illini also marks the third in a row this season for Wisconsin basketball, which has suffered defeats to the Michigan Wolverines and No. 5 Marquette Golden Eagles before falling to Illinois.

The Badgers, who are 8-3 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play, will look to turn things around before things get worse on Saturday when they face the Butler Bulldogs in the Indy Classic at a neutral site at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
