The Milwaukee Brewers have a reputation for getting the most out of pitchers, regardless of how long or tiny they have been with the organization. In 2019, pitchers Jordan Lyles and Drew Pomeranz were with the team for several months after being acquired at the trade deadline. After great results with the Crew, both signed modest contracts in free agency this winter.
On the contract front, Drew Pomeranz signed a four-year, $34 million deal with the San Diego Padres and Jordan Lyles signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Texas Rangers. Unfortunately, things haven’t been going well for either pitcher since their time with the Brewers, but it was recently announced that Pomeranz signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners.
Stats from Drew Pomeranz of the Milwaukee Brewers
In 2019, Drew Pomeranz was acquired by the Brewers from the San Francisco Giants at the expense of a top prospect named Maurcio Dubon. Milwaukee ultimately got excellent production from Pomeranz, as he posted a 2.45 ERA, collected 12 catches and had two saves over 26.1 innings. Ultimately, in 2022, Dubon was traded to the Houston Astros, where he has now become a very useful player, where he played every position last year except pitcher and catcher.
Injuries plagued Drew Pomeranz following the 2020 season
After signing with the San Diego Padres, Drew Pomeranz managed to pitch just 44.1 huge league innings over the life of his contract, with the last of those innings coming in 2021. He was plagued by shoulder, elbow and forearm injuries that ultimately culminated in forearm required surgery. In 2024, he worked in three different organizations, including: a tiny stint on the Giants’ huge league roster, but he was designated for assignment before he was brought into the game.
Drew Pomeranz signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners
Before the 2025 season, 35-year-old Drew Pomeranz will begin working in the Seattle Mariners organization, signing a minor league contract with them. This is a low-risk deal for the Mariners in which they will be hoping the veteran pitcher returns to form and secures a spot on their huge league roster.
