Before Friday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers Milwaukee Bucks released an injury report. Damian Lillard was struggling with a calf strain and the team decided to err on the side of caution before Friday’s competition, excluding him from the competition.
Damian Lillard will miss Friday’s game
After being a huge contributor to the Bucks’ Tuesday victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder and securing the Bucks’ first NBA Cup, Lillard’s absence is a bit shocking.
Lillard helped secure a 97-81 victory over the Thunder by scoring 23 points and dishing out four assists. On the season, he is averaging 25.7 points per game in an average of 36.4 minutes per game.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton were also on the injury report, but they had not been officially ruled out as of Thursday evening.
The Bucks submitted their first injury report ahead of tomorrow’s game in Cleveland.
Outside:
Damian Lillard (right calf strain)
Johnson, Livingston, Smith (G League)
Likely:
Giannis Antetokounmpo (Right patella tendinopathy)
Khris Middleton (non-Covid illness)
— Eric Nehm (@eric_nehm) December 19, 2024
Middleton is listed as having a non-Covid illness and Antetokounmpo has right patellar tendinopathy, both listed as probable.
It’s likely that fans will see Antetokounmpo and Middleton on the court on Friday, but we won’t see Lillard in a suit. Without Lillard, getting the win over Cleveland on Friday will be a huge team effort.
Cleveland is arguably the best team in basketball right now, and the Bucks need to continue to play good basketball. They showed their drive and determination in Tuesday’s NBA Cup victory, but it will have to translate into Friday’s games. After this triumphant victory, Milwaukee returned to the talks currently taking place with the best teams in the NBA.
