The Green Bay Packers may return Luke Musgrave from injured reserve before Monday’s game against the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field.
Musgrave, who has been on injured reserve since week four after undergoing surgery to correct an ankle injury, has been practicing with the team over the last two weeks, and LaFleur likes what he’s seen so far.
“Watching him take a lot of reps on the scout team, you can see he runs speedy. We haven’t had the pads on this week, but everything I’ve seen from him looks pretty good,” LaFleur said Friday.
Musgrave’s return could provide a boost in terms of vertical threat and an athletic complement to starter Tucker Kraft down the stretch.
“He has something that you can’t really coach, as far as the speed he brings to the field,” LaFleur said. If we can get him back into it, it will be really good for him and for us.
LaFleur said the Packers didn’t overload Musgrave with snaps or ask him to do anything he wasn’t confident doing on the football field after a earnest injury.
“He has enough experience and I feel pretty comfortable knowing what we’re going to ask him to do to go out there and play,” LaFleur said.
The Packers host the Saints on Monday night. Green Bay has three games left in the regular season, giving Musgrave plenty of time to prepare before the postseason.
Musgrave caught five passes on seven targets for 22 yards during the Packers’ first four games of 2024. He was on the field for 108 snaps, or about 39 percent of the offensive snaps. Kraft, who was drafted in the third round last year, won the role as the starter heading into training camp.
As a rookie, Musgrave caught 34 passes for 352 yards and a touchdown. He gained 30 or more yards in six of 11 games and added six catches for 66 yards and a touchdown in two postseason games.
