The Wisconsin Badgers are 10-3 in college basketball this season and 0-2 in BIG10 Conference play. At some point, Wisconsin will need to start racking up wins in conference play. One of head coach Greg Gard’s main players this season is the defenseman John Tonje.
Tonje added another element to the Badgers offense. John Tonje is averaging 19.2 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 2.0 APG while shooting 45.5% from the field.
Wisconsin Badgers head coach Greg Gard makes a critical statement from defenseman John Tonje
On Monday, the Badgers head coach spoke to the media about his star player. – said Greg Gard on Tonje’s further progress:
“We need him to continue to be more effective. If this team really reaches a high level. We need to have it at a high level and more consistently.
In Wisconsin’s last game against Detroit, Mercy took just six shots and scored nine points. John Tonje will need more ball in his hands when it comes to attacking play. Tonje has scored 15 or more points in a game eight times this season for the Wisconsin Badgers.
The Iowa Hawkeyes’ next opponent
The Wisconsin Badgers’ next opponent will be the Iowa Hawkeyes on January 3, 2025. Wisconsin will have some time off before then. Iowa State is 1-1 in conference play this season and 9-3 overall. The next time the Badgers take the floor, they will have to beat the Hawkeyes.
John Tonje needs to be the star for the Badgers that he was this year. Wisconsin will also need other lend a hand elsewhere. This was a very intriguing tactic by head coach Greg Gard of calling on his star player.
