The Green Bay Packers received “good news” on Christian Watson’s knee injury and there is a possibility he could play on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
Watson was injured after a player fell on Watson’s knee behind schedule in Monday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints. While the Packers were concerned after Monday’s game, Tuesday’s tests revealed nothing more than a bruise.
“We have good news on him, so it’s more of a bruise,” coach Matt LaFleur said Tuesday. “It was when a guy fell on him on the sideline. He still needs to be able to function, so we’ll see how he practices this week and see where we are.
Watson left the field in the first half, returned briefly, and then left the field for the rest of the contest. He finished with two runs for 23 yards and zero catches on one target.
The Packers have a low week to finish their Monday night game in Green Bay and head to their Sunday afternoon game in Minnesota, potentially complicating Watson’s path to returning to the field this week. The Packers finish the season at home against the Chicago Bears.
Watson has 29 catches for 620 yards along with two touchdowns and four rushes for 23 yards in 14 games. He averaged 21.4 yards per reception and 11.9 yards per target, both the bests of his career.
